AUGHNACLOY COLLEGE

Theme: Enhancing Animal Health Naturally

The team will be researching the use of alternative feeds and the value of alternative animal feeds in relation to meat quality. They will be focusing on the steps that can be taken to reduce animal treatments during rearing and the actions taken by farmers to promote happy animals. They are also interested in finding out if there is a link between happy animals and happy farmers.

Theme: Family farming systems and their benefit to the community

The team will be looking at how local farmers enrich local communities such as Young Farmers Clubs and the positive impact that a strong community spirit can have on mental health of individuals. They want to raise awareness of the importance of supporting rural communities among the general consumer and they will be promoting the value of locally produced brands.

Theme: Northern Ireland agriculture & quality of its produce

The team will be researching advantages of Northern Ireland produce over imported food as well as the value and importance of agriculture to the Northern Ireland economy. They will explore and promote the benefits of eating beef as part of a balanced diet with a particular aspect on sports nutrition.

THEME: WOMEN IN AGRI-BUSINESS

The girls will be addressing the discrimination felt by young women entering agriculture. They will be promoting the opportunities in the agriculture sector for women. They have an interest in finding out how maternal instinct improves animal welfare. They will shine a spotlight on the roles and advantages of women working in food production from farm to fork.
