Advice on Competition Stages

Stage 1:

Here are some tips for when you are making your video:

  • Make sure the sound is clear and what the team members are saying on the video can be heard. It is best to choose a quiet environment when you are recording. For example don’t filming on a very windy day or close to traffic. You could record a ‘voice over’ if a clip is too noisy and use the images/video on screen as the visual.

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and convey your genuine interest in the topics you are talking about

  • Make sure all team members contribute and that nobody is left out

  • A mix of outdoor and indoor clips can add variety

  • NO unsafe farm practices. Such actions could result in your video being excluded

  • Explain what you would like to focus your research topic on e.g. what area of Farming/Agri Food you would like to improve and how you could change peoples opinions/practices while rearing your calves

  • Stage 2:

You may be invited to a shortlisting interview. The interview questions will be based on the video that the team has submitted.

After all the interviews are completed, you may be invited to attend an Exhibition during Halloween mid-term break. The teams will be required to establish a display stand to promote their ideas to the audience present. Specifications for the display will be provided.

Judging the exhibition event will be independent representatives from the Agriculture & Food industry and Education sectors.

Judges will ask questions based on the ideas presented at the exhibition and the team’s plan for their calves, if successful in getting through to the final stage.

Reaching and taking part in the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for self-development and team-work. It gives young people and the club or school they represent the opportunity to shine in a topic they are passionate about. The team will be expected to speak confidently with knowledge and enthusiasm, demonstrating the in-depth research they carried out.

They will have to produce a display to a high standard that conveys their work and their ideas in a creative and engaging way.

Awards of Merit will be presented for all those that take part in the Exhibition.

Following the exhibition, a number of teams will proceed to Stage 3.
