ABP, in collaboration with the Certified Irish Angus Producer Group have treated our 2024 finalists to a European "Farm to Fork" study tour. The tour commenced at the Teagasc’s major Open Day Beef2024 at the Grassland Research & Innovation Centre, Grange in Co. Meath. The trip then continued with a visit to Lismullin Cookery School before flying off to Brussels. Whilst in Belgium, the pupils, visited the European Parliament; and met with representatives of the Northern Ireland Executive Office and the Ulster Farmer’s Union. Charles Smith of Certified Irish Angus explains why these locations were chosen:
“The theme of Beef2024 was ‘Securing Your Future’ which has cross-cutting relevance to all our finalists’ projects. The practical cookery demonstration enabled the pupils to cook their own steaks to perfection and experience the great taste and nutritional benefits of Angus beef,”
“Some of our finalists have never flown before. So the experience of visiting a European city and learning about how business and farming networks operate at the heart of the European Union is a valuable insight for young people who are interested in a career in agrifood,”
Entries to the ABP Angus Youth Challenge will open again to Yr. 11 at the start of the new school year in September.
